General Books About the Bassoon and Bassoon Repertoire
The Paris Conservatoire and the Contest Solos for Bassoon by Kristine K. Fletcher. This is a very interesting book about the history of one of the foremost European music schools and the repertoire for bassoon which originated from composers writing for its annual contests. The bassoon world is all the richer for these works. I reviewed this book during my M.Mus at the University of British Columbia. Bassoonist Christopher Millard has recorded several works discussed in this book, including Portuguesa by Busser. Check out the latest CD's released by Christopher Millard on Summit Records.
